The Antiquarium of Baschi preserves and exhibits artifacts found in over twenty years of excavations in the archaeological area of Scoppieto, near Civitella del Lago, in the Municipality of Baschi, thanks to Professor Margherita Bergamini and the students of the University of Perugia. The archaeological area (3400 square meters) and the structures that emerged witness different periods of attendance. The first is datable to the third century BC and is related to the presence of a sanctuary (on which later residential buildings were constructed). From the 1st century AD, a factory started to make fine tableware ceramics: clay pots, thin-walled cups and glasses, oil lamps and common ceramics; works that thanks to the river (Tiber) and maritime (Mediterranean) trade routes reached as far as North Africa: it has been possible to trace the artisans of Scoppieto right through the “seal”, the original brand, placed on the bottom of vases and products. The antiquarium / archaeological museum, located in the municipal palace of Baschi, has many reasons of interest for both scholars and history lovers. It is extraordinary for the quality of the finds and their originality. An educational path allows you to understand the techniques and the different phases of the ceramic production process.
